Proper installation and simple routine care will help protect the finish and keep your hardware looking its best for years to come.
Before You Install
Before drilling new holes, confirm the measurements of your hardware and cabinetry.
If you’re replacing existing hardware, measure the distance from the center of one mounting hole to the center of the other. This is known as the center-to-center measurement.
Always compare this measurement with the specifications listed on the product page before ordering or installing replacement hardware.
For new cabinetry, we recommend positioning all hardware before drilling and using a cabinet hardware template or installation jig to maintain consistent placement.
Installing Cabinet Knobs
Cabinet knobs typically require a single mounting hole.
Insert the supplied screw through the inside of the cabinet door or drawer and thread it into the knob from the front.
Tighten until the knob is secure and sits flush against the cabinetry.
Avoid overtightening. Excessive force can damage the cabinet surface, mounting hardware, or threads.
Installing Cabinet Pulls
Before installation, confirm the pull’s center-to-center measurement.
For new cabinetry, mark both mounting points carefully or use a cabinet hardware jig to ensure consistent spacing throughout the room.
Insert the appropriate screws from the inside of the cabinet door or drawer and thread them into the pull.
Tighten evenly until the pull sits securely against the cabinet surface.
Do not overtighten.
Installing Appliance Pulls
Appliance pulls experience greater force than standard cabinet hardware and should be installed securely according to the requirements of the appliance or panel manufacturer.
Before installation, verify the thickness and construction of the panel and confirm that the supplied mounting hardware is appropriate for your application.
For panel-ready appliances, installation requirements can vary by manufacturer.
When in doubt, we recommend having appliance pulls installed by your cabinet maker, contractor, appliance installer, or another qualified professional.
Choosing the Correct Screw Length
Cabinet doors and drawer fronts vary in thickness.
The screws supplied with your hardware are intended to accommodate common cabinetry applications, but some installations may require a different screw length.
The screw should engage securely with the hardware without bottoming out before the hardware sits firmly against the cabinet surface.
If the supplied screw is not appropriate for your cabinetry, consult your cabinet maker, installer, or local hardware professional for the correct compatible length and thread.
Caring for Your Hardware
Routine care is simple.
For everyday cleaning, use a soft, clean cloth lightly dampened with water. Dry the hardware afterward with a soft cloth.
For fingerprints or light residue, a small amount of mild, pH-neutral soap diluted in water may be used. Wipe away any remaining soap and dry immediately.
What to Avoid
To help protect the finish, do not use:
- Abrasive cleaners or scrubbing pads
- Bleach or chlorine-based cleaners
- Ammonia
- Harsh chemical cleaners
- Metal polish unless specifically approved for the finish
- Rough sponges or brushes
- Cleaning products containing strong acids or solvents
Do not allow household cleaners to remain on the hardware.
When cleaning cabinetry or countertops, avoid spraying cleaning products directly onto the hardware. Apply the cleaner to your cloth instead.
Natural Changes Over Time
Hardware is a high-touch element of the home.
With regular use, subtle changes in appearance may occur over time, particularly in frequently handled areas. Environmental conditions, cleaning products, oils from hands, moisture, and frequency of use can all influence how a finish ages.
These changes are part of the natural life of hardware and can give frequently used pieces their own character.
If Your Hardware Becomes Loose
Cabinet hardware can loosen gradually with repeated use.
If you notice movement, check the mounting screw from inside the cabinet or drawer and gently tighten it until the hardware is secure.
Do not overtighten.
If hardware repeatedly becomes loose, remove it and check that the screw is the appropriate length and that the threads and mounting surface have not been damaged.
