I’ve always believed that you don’t have to completely redesign a room to make it feel unique.
Sometimes you just need to change the details.
That’s really where the idea for Kova Atelier Home started. I love beautiful interiors, but I’m especially drawn to the smaller things that give a room character. Cabinet hardware is one of them. It’s something we touch every day, but it’s also one of the easiest things to overlook when putting a space together.
And good hardware really does make a difference.
There is something about opening a cabinet and feeling the weight of a solid brass pull. Or seeing a simple vanity completely change because you replaced the hardware with something a little more interesting.
That’s what I wanted Kova to be about.
Why hardware?
Because it’s one of those rare changes you can make without renovating an entire room.
You can take cabinetry that’s already there, change the knobs or pulls, and suddenly the space feels more intentional. And if you are doing a full renovation, hardware is one of those final choices that can bring everything together.
When I started choosing pieces for Kova, I didn’t want hundreds of options that all looked basically the same. I wanted a smaller collection of pieces that I would actually want to use in my own home.
Some are simple. Some make more of a statement. Some are meant to almost disappear into the cabinetry, while others are definitely meant to be noticed.
But they all needed to feel good in your hand and feel substantial when installed.
That’s also why solid brass was important to me.
Making a home your own
One thing you’ll probably notice about Kova is that I’m not particularly interested in telling people that there is one “right” way to use hardware.
Mix a knob with a pull. Use satin brass in one room and satin nickel somewhere else. Put an oversized pull on a cabinet because you love the way it looks. Change the hardware on an old dresser instead of buying a new one.
Homes are more interesting when they actually look like the people who live in them.
And that’s probably the biggest idea behind Kova.
I want to offer pieces that help you make a space feel a little more like you.
We’re just getting started
Kova Atelier Home is new, and I’m genuinely excited (and, if I’m being completely transparent, a little nervous) to finally have it out in the world.
There is a lot more coming.
I’ll be using this journal to share design ideas, answer some of the questions that come up when choosing hardware, talk about sizing and finishes, and show different ways our pieces can be used.
But for the first post, I really just wanted to say welcome.
